Einen Großteil Ihrer Standzeit in Sonneberg verbrachte 03 2295-8 im Betriebswerk in Sonneberg, wo sie neben Wasser aufnehmen auch gleich für die Rückfahrt gewartet wurde.

Am 23. /24. September 2006 feierte die Strecke Sonneberg – Lauscha ihr 120 jähriges Jubiläum. Leider war am Wochenende die Brandgefahr auf der Strecke zu hoch, so das es am Samstag kurz vor Lauscha zu zwei Bränden kam. Deshalb stand die BR 50 3501 des Dampflokwerks Meiningen am Sonntag nur für kurze Führerstandsmitfahrten zwischen SonnebergerBahnhof und Lokschuppen zur Verfügung.
To 23. /24. September 2006 celebrated the distance Sonneberg - Lauscha their 120 year old anniversary. Unfortunately the fire risk on the distance was too highly, thus it on Saturday before Lauscha to two fires came. Therefore the Class 50 3501 of the Dampflokwerk Meiningen was available on Sunday only for short on board drives between Sonneberg station and locomotive shed.

52 5448-7 stand am 2. Oktober 2010 als Ausstellungs-Lokomotive im Leipziger Hauptbahnhof.	An den Messetage zur „Modell Hobby Spiel“ in Leipzig wurden Führerstandsmitfahrten auf Lok 52 8154-8 angeboten. Hierzu pendelte die Lok auf den Messegelände hin und her. Am 5. Dezember 2009 fand eine Sonderfahrt mit der 52 8195 von Nürnberg nach Lauscha statt. Ich hatte das Glück die Garnitur bei einen kurzen Zwischenstopp im Bahnhof Rödental ablichten zu können. Hier wartete der Zug den entgegen kommenden Regionalzug ab, bevor es um 18.45 wieder weiter ging.
On December 5, 2009 was an exceptional ride with the class 52 8195 from Nuremberg to Lauscha. I had the good fortune to be photograph the garnish on a brief stopover in the station Rödental. Here the train was waiting for a local train before it went on again at 18.45.

Zu Sonderfahrten anlässlich des 1000 jährigen Stadtjubiläums lud die BR 70 083 am 15. / 16. September 2007 mit ihren Sonderzug ein.

Baureihe 94

Auch 94 1538 war am Tag der offenen Tür bei Piko zum 60 jährigen Jubiläum wieder in Sonneberg zu Gast. Sie nahm kurz nach der Ankunft neue Rohstoffe auf, rangierte ans andere Ende des Zuges und konnte so dann den ganzen Tag im Bahnhof fotografiert werden.

BR 94 1538 kam aus Illmenau mit einen Sonderzug am 16. Juni 2007, anlässlich des Tages der offenen Tür bei der Modellbahnfirma Piko, nach Sonneberg.	Kurz nach der Ankunft in Sonneberg wurden erste Wartungsarbeiten vorgenommen.	Der Wagenpark wurde danach auf ein Abstellgleis gedrückt.
